You are not a victim.. You are a VICTOR.

It’s been awhile, I know.

Despite the business of my life with getting ready to move from Japan to the states in two days, flying for long hours, leaving the known for the unknown, a lot more has gone on. Finding out that we are pregnant with our second child. Praise God. whether planned or not it is a surprise gift from God. Does this change my plans on personal training? Possibly. Maybe God has called me to be more than that right now. To be a mom to two precious gifts. Will I give up and think my significance is less because I can’t accomplish right now what I wanted to? Honestly, thought about it.

I hate, yes hate, quitting. Giving up. I don’t want to look like someone who can’t finish what they started. I’ve considered teaching pregnancy classes. Still possibility. When I start something I go for it. (Thanks dad for that quality) But through every time of confusion there is a lesson to be learned.

Through this time of stress, tension, and the inevitable morning sickness I have found myself doing the opposite of what would help me. I have drifted away. Away from God. Away from my husband. Focusing all my energy on raising my beautiful baby girl and not wanting to miss a moment of her life. What’s wrong with that? It’s out of order. It causes tension. It’s what causes stress. Not my situation, my response to it.

I could, and have been sitting here thinking ” I’m never going to.overcome this stress. To fix my attitude with my husband. To feel better.” Then God ,not so gently, knocks me down a few pegs and reminds me I’M NOT A VICTIM. I AM A VICTOR.

“No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loves us.” Romans 8:37

MORE THAN A CONQUERER. An overcomer. A VICTOR. more than a VICTOR.

Next time I start feeling sorry for myself or that I am a victim to my circumstances, I have to have this verse on repeat. I won’t just overcome my attitude I will conquer it WITH HIM. I won’t just overcome and get by this stressful move. I will be more than a VICTOR through Him.

Praising Him in all things. For no matter what my actions are in life He shows me Grace. Undeserving Grace. Blessing me with another beautiful child. A new opportunity in a new place. A forgiving loving husband. Financial blessings. I am not perfect, thankfully my Savior is.

What You Don’t Know.. CAN Hurt You.

YOU are way more than just “out of shape”. And realizing this can save you from a lot of pain.

There is a lot more to the expression of being out of shape than  people realize. You think “out of shape” you think, “I’m not as good I once was, not as fast, not as toned, not as skinny.” You then get your out of shape self back into the gym where you left off last time. Or buy a new workout DVD with all the “ripped” people on the front and go full steam ahead to look like them. You go to the gym and look for the “in shape” crowd and ask him/her their secrets because you are sure what they do to look like that will work for you too. (That is actually how the occupation of Personal Training was started back in the 1970’s- 80’s.)

You may have the illusion or misguided thinking that to get in shape you must workout like those who are already in shape. That is the fastest way to injuring yourself. People tend to think that personal trainers are only for those who have the money and no idea what a treadmill is.. Or if you get one that you will look like a loser that doesn’t know how to do a push up. You’ll be “fin”e going straight from the couch to 3 hours on the elliptical. You’ll be “fine” following that person around and doing what they just did on the machine right after them (please don’t do this for the sole reason of that’s just creepy). Really all of that is not “fine”.

When you are out of shape, your muscles, joints, balance, everything is out of shape. Your body is “deconditioned” which is more than being overweight or out of breath. It means you have muscle imbalances. It takes knowing the scientific reasoning behind exercises to know where to start and where to go from there. Jumping into a workout without knowing what you are working or if that is what your body is ready for can lead to musculoskeletal injuries that can hinder you from working out at all. Also not getting the desired outcome you are wanting to see. The little extra money for a personal trainer can pay off in the long run. (No pun intended) Not to just have someone barking at you telling you that if you don’t do one more push up you are a failure at life, no, they are there to make sure you don’t hurt yourself and that you get the results that YOU want.

Do it, just do it the right way. Get a trainer.

What’s For Dinner?

Did you know that one reason most of us don’t make changes is because of fear?

One reason many don’t start diets is the fear of one thing… having to stick with it. THAT is why I don’t believe in diets. Yes, I said it. This soon to be personal trainer does not believe in diets. What do I believe in? LIFESTYLE CHANGE.

There are three types of people when it comes to eating right:

1- Those who refuse to change because on the outside they want to look like they are fine with their weight. They are “too good” to change.

2-Those who have tried every “diet” in the books and for some reason don’t see a change.

3- Those who change their way of life and become healthy from the inside out.

I use to be the second type. I would diet, drop it, try a new one, drop that one too. I would be so focused and consumed with my diet that eventually it became all that I thought about. The more I thought about my diet, the HARDER the diet became to stick with. The constant thought of “okay, after this diet then what?” took over. What do you do when your diet ends? Do you stick with the same diet until the day you die?

Those questions can lead you to become type number 1. The thought of having to diet the rest of your life is so tiring that you don’t even want to go there. You don’t need to eat healthy right? Why not enjoy life? Eat what you want. Plus you don’t want people thinking you don’t actually like the way you look or feel, right? That is all wrong. In so many ways. One way that is wrong is how will you enjoy your life when your life is cut short from how you eat? DID YOU KNOW.. That 5 of every 6 deaths in America is caused by chronic diseases. (Heart disease, asthma, diabetes type 2..) Diseases that are almost all preventable and manageable by healthy living? It’s true!

Now that brings me to the type we all should become. Type #3. Until you realize that it isn’t a diet, and give up on the word “diet” I promise you, you will not get healthy, at least not stick with it. Determine TODAY that you are going to change your life. Only you, with the help of God, can make the change. Clean out your cabinets, buy the healthier version, choose every meal to order the right thing off the menu and leave some still on your plate.

Isn’t living a long life worth it to you? Isn’t NOT thinking every single day and being consumed by the thought of food worth it to you? Consume your thoughts with the Lord. He will help you make the change. Enjoy your life, don’t waste one more day worrying about what’s for dinner.

Beyond The Label

When buying food, one thing you SHOULD do is check the nutrition label. It tells all about the hidden things that you might not know is inside the food you are buying. You might be thinking the product is healthy, but one look at the label and you would know better. Looking at labels is essential to eating healthy and physical fitness. Avoiding sugars and sodium are two important rules to remember. Sugar of course leading to fat, and sodium one of the biggest causes of bloating (a girl’s worst enemy).

When it comes to spiritual fitness however, going by a label can be one of the most dangerous things you can do. What label am I talking about? The one on the outside of YOU. In the past I have had the hardest time with this and is one reason I have had a battle with staying on track with my physical fitness.

“Hello my name is..”

For a long time there would be a lot of negative words to follow that phrase for me. Anxious, easily angered, selfish, quitter, fake. I was taking what others thought, told, and have labeled me and put it right on the outside of the box of my life. I took what the Devil tried to make me think was on the inside of me for truth. Dangerous.

Why is this so dangerous? Because this is all false. Every negative thought comes from the Devil and is not truth. Just because you have quit your workout and diet before doesn’t mean you are a “quitter”. It means you messed up and good news, you have another shot. You might have done selfish things instead of laying yourself down for your friends in the past, but that doesn’t mean you are “selfish”. It means you have another day to prove your friendship.

Going by the label that others give you can make you think that what you have on the inside is no good. God says different. You are His masterpiece. “For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.” Ephesians 2:10.

You are made of good, perfection in the eyes of the Lord. Putting a label on yourself can discourage you from sticking with this journey to become fit for Him. Your label should say “forgiven, transformed, renewed, strong in Christ, pure”. Challenge yourself to see the good in yourself. Put God’s label on your life. Every day is a new day to be what He has perfectly made you to be.

A great song that describes this is “Hello, My Name Is” -Matthew West.

When people look at your nutrition label make sure they see what God has put inside of you.

I don’t want to go on a tangent BUT…

I don’t want to go on a tangent BUT.. I will anyway.

“I can do all things through CHRIST who strengthens me.” Phil 4:13.

Five days ago my husband and I started a 24 Day Challenge to get healthy. Not to lose weight, but be healthy. Let me tell you, like I joke with my husband, I see why it’s not called the 24 Day “walk in the park”!

On my journey to become a personal trainer I knew that I have to lead by example. You don’t want a trainer telling you to avoid this and that when you catch them at Pizza Hut the night after your workout, right? So we decided to buy in to the company Advocare and try out their challenge pack. I thought I knew what I was getting us into…

I thought I was getting us into a challenge that wouldn’t be that hard and we would try it and maybe stick with it. However I knew, being renewed in Christ, that He would give us the strength this time to stick with it. And He has. We are on Day 5 of the 10 day cleanse. In the past I would start things like eating healthy. I would go “organic”, then seeing it cost an arm, leg, and my entire salary, it lasted a week. Then I tried other nutrition plans with workout DVDs. I would stop a couple weeks in because I still felt like I needed it spelled out for me how to eat healthy. Instead I would get lost in the food aisles and end up just getting my favorite Sour Cream and Cheddar chips instead. It would depress me so much that I got to thinking my character is not strong enough for anything.

Five days ago we cleaned out the cabinets, went to the store with the easy meal guide, and set in our HEARTS, that we will do this thing.

Here is what is the amazing UNEXPECTED results I have seen so far..

My husband and I have already felt so much better.

I have energy for my daughter and to chase her around the house, clean, and focus for the entire day.

My sinuses have almost completely cleared.

My headaches are few and far between.

After a long day of the Navy my husband comes home and wants to go out with the family or take care of things around the house.

Since doing this together we have spent more time and laughs with each other.

We have found new things in each other: encouragers, partners.

Most importantly we have found that no matter the challenge or diet, that we couldn’t do a single day without Christ. You may think this sounds extreme but it is TRUTH. I have literally found myself praying to Him “Lord, take these desires out of my heart. Give me strength to eat right for you. To prove to others and You that you are all I need.”

Sorry about the tangent but I would feel guilty not sharing what God has done with us so far. I cannot wait to see where we will be in 19 days!!

Who Is Your Partner?

“Brothers, if anyone is caught in any transgression, you who are spiritual should restore him in a spirit of gentleness. Keep watch on yourself, lest you too be tempted. Bear one another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ.” Galations 6:1-2

On this journey to become fit, one thing is crucial, and often overlooked. Partnership.

When you make changes to become fit it is extremely important to have someone to keep you accountable, not only physically but spiritually. For the days that you want to quit your diet or quit your workouts. The days that you are down on yourself, mentally. The days you feel spiritually beat up. Having someone behind you and beside you, can make all the difference.

For my physical walk, at the moment my husband is my accountability partner. We are on a 24 Day Challenge to get healthy. He helps me with cleaning out the cabinets, buying the right foods, and the days we both are CRAVING taco bell, helping each other in a positive way to avoid temptation. Reminding each other of our goals to be healthy for Christ. We both have God as our #1 motivation but having each other makes it that much easier to achieve our goals.

For my mental walk, I have elders that I trust in my life. From my parents to church friends, pastor’s wives. When I am feeling down for whatever reason, because we all know as women some weeks just aren’t as good as others, those ladies are there to fill me with positive thinking.

For my spiritual walk, I have to admit I haven’t been as good about having a partner. But God speaks to ME through what He tells me to write in this blog too. I use to have several close friends in the states, but distance can unfortunately make those ties not as tight. After today I will find a friend to keep me uplifted and reminded of the scripture and what God feels towards me. And to admit to her the struggles I have so she can righteously uplift me with His Word. To remind each other of our goals to become fit spiritually for Him.

****REMEMBER– Make your partner a WOMAN, besides if the physical partner being your husband can work for you. The other two areas need to be women for a couple reasons: It is not good to get emotionally attached to a man that is not your husband and share things with him. Sometimes your husband is not the right choice because he will not understand and some things need to stay between women that can. Unless it is something serious that your husband or partner should know.***

Hope this encourages you to encourage someone else. We are all sisters in Christ! Not here to judge each other but lift each other up!
