Who is your motivation to get fit? It should be for #1. I am not talking about the saying, “Looking out for #1.” (yourself) No, I am talking about who your #1 should be, God. Any other motivation to get fit will only leave you defeated and in a cycle you cannot win.
Why you shouldn’t get fit for yourself…
Usually, well most of us, have way to high of expectations for ourselves. No matter how beautifully made He made us, we still find flaws or imperfections. We are searching for something God has already made us, perfect. We need to see ourselves this way. But since we usually don’t, it is hard to meet the perfection we strive for. If we get fit to please ourselves we will never be satisfied. We will see flaws places that don’t exist.
Why you shouldn’t get fit for a guy..
Though this is the reason a lot of us want to get fit, this should never be the most important motivation. Not saying that you can’t try to be healthy for your husband or significant other, but it should not solely be based on what they think. Believe it or not, men don’t always have the right words to say. Though they may have good intentions, their comments can leave us with shattered self esteem. Even the omission of comments we want to hear can hurt us. After a long workout, after wearing a new outfit, trying out a new makeup, all you want is for him to notice. And when he doesn’t? We get to thinking there is something wrong with us. What is it really? He is a guy. And sometimes they just don’t say the right thing.
Why you shouldn’t get fit to compete with peers..
Though a little competition can be healthy to push you to go further than you ever thought, it is not the reason to get fit. As sisters in Christ we should be helping, encouraging each other. Staying on the path with each other, jogging side by side. Once you start the battle of comparison it will only leave you hurting. Someone will always have something you wish that you had. “Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.” Romans 12:2.
Why you SHOULD get fit for #1 (God)…
God calls us in His word to get fit for Him. Mentally, spiritually, and yes even physically. One of my favorite verses “So, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God” 1 Corinthians 10:31. On those days that you find imperfections in yourself, your husband/boyfriend doesn’t notice your new look, or your friend lets you down, HE will never fail you. He will always be there telling you how perfectly He made you. There is NO flaw on you. Others will see Christ through the way you take care of yourself. Plus we all want to have a long life to proclaim the good news of Christ right?
Start today and examine in your heart, who or what is your motivation every day?
